A yarn about truth and healing: CEO Brian Woods speaks with Stolen Generations Survivor, Aunty Barbara Simms
Today, Monday 26 May, is National Sorry Day. NSW Trustee and Guardian acknowledges the ongoing strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – including Stolen Generations survivors, their descendants and their communities.
In the lead-up to National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, our CEO Brian Woods had a yarn with Aunty Barbara Simms, a proud La Perouse Elder and Bidjigal and Wadi Wadi woman.
Aunty Barb shared her deeply personal stories as a survivor of the Stolen Generations, recounting the experience of being forcibly removed from her mother at just nine years of age.
Together they shared a powerful conversation, reflecting on the past and how together, we can heal and embrace reconciliation, bridging now to next.
This is the start of building stronger relationships and building trust through meaningful conversations with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Listen to Aunty Barb and Brian’s yarn below.
