Program objective
The objective of this grant is to enable collaborative efforts between Aboriginal Medical Services and Primary Health Networks to contribute to a cancer system that is responsive to the needs of Aboriginal people.
This grant will enable workshop hosting, attendance, travel, accommodation and the development of cancer quality improvement initiatives.
This program is funded and administered by Cancer Institute NSW.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be employed at a NSW- based Primary Health Network
The Project Lead must be employed at a Primary Health Network within NSW. Grant funding provided by the Cancer Institute NSW must be used toward enabling the quality collaborative within NSW-based Aboriginal Medical Services.
- Be endorsed by a Primary Health Network
Applications must nominate a single Primary Health Network who will be responsible for the management of the grant and will enter into a Competitive Grants Agreement – Short Form.
The Institution must have in place policies and procedures for the administration of public funds; for the management of Intellectual Property; and for proper conduct of research in relation to ethics.
At the time of grant application submission, an Endorsement Letter from the relevant Institution Contact (e.g., Chief Executive Officer) on an institutional letterhead must be included.
- Demonstrate appropriate Aboriginal representation in the development and delivery of the grant
The Primary Health Network must provide the funding directly to the Aboriginal Medical Service/s in the region. Each application must demonstrate appropriate engagement with their local Aboriginal Medical Service/s across the funding period.

Project Leads must submit:

- Primary Health Network Endorsement Letter.
Address the assessment criteria
Significance (50%)
- Demonstration of the current cancer service gaps/needs within the nominated Aboriginal community
- The potential to improve the health and well-being of Aboriginal people within the nominated Aboriginal community with links to the NSW cancer plan
Monitoring and Outcomes (30%)
- A clear process for monitoring the progress of the project, including achievable key milestones and outcome indicators that can be delivered during the grant
- The potential to impact on health service improvements
Experience/background (10%)
- The Primary Health Network has an existing Aboriginal Medical Services agreement to work collaboratively with the Aboriginal Medical Services in the region.
Financial Management (10%)
- Demonstrates value for money on how the funds will be spent
Start the application
The Cancer Quality Improvement Collaboration Grant application form and templates will be sent to
the Primary Health Networks that have been targeted for this grant.
Applications must be submitted via email to CINSWGrants@health.nsw.gov.au within two weeks of being invited to apply.
It is the responsibility of the Project Lead to submit the following:
- Completed application form
- Aboriginal Medical Service Agreement
- Primary Health Network Endorsement Letter.
The applicant will receive a notification of receipt email within one business day of the application
submission.
After the application is submitted
Successful applications will be decided by: The Cancer Institute NSW’s Chief Executive Officer will consider all recommendations for funding by the Review Panel.
All applications will undergo an eligibility check to ensure that applicants have met the
requirements of the grant.
A Grants Review Panel comprised of representatives from the Aboriginal Strategy Engagement
Team and Cancer Services and Information Division at the Cancer Institute NSW will assess all
eligible applications.
All Panel members will adhere to the Cancer Institute NSW policies to ensure
the privacy and confidentiality of applications and declare any conflicts of interest as necessary.
Conflicts of interest will be managed by the Director of the Strategic Research and Innovation
Division.
The Grants Review Panel will assess applications based on an assessment of merit against the
stated assessment criteria as detailed in section 2.2.
The Grants Review Panel will put forward recommendations for awarding of the grant to the Cancer
Institute NSW Chief Executive Officer for consideration.
All applicants will be notified in writing of the grant outcome.
